Marry or Burn… What’s Your Choice?

Single? What’s your perspective about it?

I really don’t like making posts about relationships because people end up thinking differently about me. I have heard the comments. “I don’t know who she think she is! She think she so special because she has been married for over twenty years. And?!”  What many people don’t understand is that this is the result of prayer and fasting. Both of us decided to make it work and we have worked hard to do so. Is every day perfect? No, not at all. We just chose to do things God’s way and that is what I am about to expound on.

When I first got with my husband, I was not sexually active. The attraction was there indefinitely and even though he never pressured me to be intimate, I wanted to. I was born and raised in church and I am familiar with the scriptures that are proclaimed in certain situations. It was apparent that I was interested beyond conversation. As time progressed, we chose to take our relationship to the next level. I didn’t need anyone to tell me to be careful, the Holy Spirit spoke to me every time I would be around my “then” boyfriend.

I was defiant because I felt that God knew my heart. Honestly, when we began being intimate I wasn’t thinking marriage. We were just having a good time. Like I said earlier, the Holy Spirit stayed in my ear, “Marry or burn with passion!” I was familiar with the scripture found in 1 Corinthians 7:9 – “But if they cannot control themselves, let them marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion”.

You may be in a similar situation and probably saying the same thing I said, “I’m not ready to be anyone’s wife God! I may marry him some day but now we are having fun.” Even though that was my mentality, the Holy Spirit stayed reminding me of this scripture. Now, the main point of the scripture above is CONTROL. If you are able to control your desires you can remain in the relationship unmarried. Only you can determine your level of control and this is also impacted by the other party. In any relationship at any time, the main focus is to stay devoted to God so your union can be blessed. If we do things our way, we may damage the relationship with our partner and with God.

So it’s our perspective about what is important that will lead our control in these intimate situations. Les remember why God created sexual intimacy. He wanted this level of closeness to be between married individuals. Their mates are the only ones that satisfy this desire. The divine setup is to be married but we are not to entertain the passion within the flesh, unless we end up burning with passion that will lead us to another eternal burn. Let that resonate when you spend another long night with your boo. Control your passion or experience being burned. Just real talk. Let’s pray about it…

Father God, we are your children and we thank you because you understand that there is nothing good in our flesh. We have relationships with people that we are attracted to. We do not want to be out of your will so let us be willing to come to you with help when faced with temptation. If it is your will for us to  be married, we will prayerfully seek your will. Thank you for being merciful and we repent for actions that did not please you. Keep us covered in your blood and focused on our destiny. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.”

P.S. Sex should not be the only reason you marry . Real relationships are more than physical.

Blessings, Yada XOXO
